its okay to fail

The Hindu (Delhi, dt 20 January, 2016) reported ‘Woman stabbed dozen times by her jilted lover’ on front page. This scary yet usual situation in society is manifestation of something very wrong. The society facing such sad state of younger generation has never given a thought on what could be done to improve the situation. We may most of times choose to avoid paying attention and blame the law keepers. But what we need to do is to identify the problem and eradicate the cause. And believe me, we never do that.

The accused every time represents mind giving more importance to material things. Since childhood to any age we collectively give excessive importance to winning. Be it in academics or simply boarding the bus. Never a conscious look is given to this habit eating the peace of mind. It is never learnt that it is okay to fail. How many grownups remember their marks in Math in 5th standard? But am sure all recall the bashing they had from their parents/teachers for less marks.

Why winning is important? It is just a state of mind that will eventually fade away. Failure too is no different. We, hence, must inculcate tuning our mind to realize failure is okay. I am not at all quoting successful persons of society who are a big success after failure according to my WhatsApp chat. I am on the other hand trying to make a basic point that being peaceful as a state of mind is more important than being a winner or loser. Don’t you agree that with peaceful mind the society shall see less of scary news on front page of newspaper?

  1. Perfect. We in society, avoid sharing responsibilities. If we pay attention to what is happening around us and react, such incidents can be prevented. It's all about sense of belonging to the society.

  2. Yes. Honestly I would like to teach my kids that failures are important to learn, achieve perfectionism. It just proves that they have worked hard and by all means.

  3. Very true. We attach too much to become successful (as defined by the society) but at what cost. The present generation go to either extremes in case of failure. Cases of suicide and depression are also large. The nuclear family system is also not helping much. The erstwhile joint family system did give a better emotional support to each other. Failures are a part of life.
